केंचुए में बंद परिसंचरण तंत्र पाया जाता है परंतु इसमें लाल रक्त कणिकाएं (RBC) नहीं होती हैं। केंचुए का हीमोग्लोबिन रक्त कणिकाओं में न होकर सीधे रक्त प्लाज्मा में घुला रहता है। इसके विपरीत मोर (पक्षी), मेंढक (उभयचर) और सांप (सरीसृप) सभी के रक्त में आरबीसी उपस्थित होती हैं।
