आवर्धक कांच (मैग्निफाइंग ग्लास) में कम फोकस दूरी वाले उत्तल लेंस (कॉन्वेक्स लेंस) का उपयोग किया जाता है। जब किसी वस्तु को उत्तल लेंस के प्रकाशिक केंद्र और मुख्य फोकस के बीच रखा जाता है, तो लेंस उसका सीधा, आभासी और बड़ा (आवर्धित) प्रतिबिंब बनाता है।

A magnifying glass uses a convex lens (converging lens) of short focal length. When an object is placed between the optical center and the principal focus of the convex lens, it forms a virtual, erect, and magnified image on the same side as the object, making small objects appear much larger.
