The High-Level Committee on Competition Policy and Law, chaired by Mr. S. V. S. Raghavan (the Raghavan Committee), was constituted in 1999. Its recommendations led to the repeal of the outdated MRTP Act, 1969 and the enactment of the modern, pro-market Competition Act, 2002 and establishment of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
