Who was the founder of the Chola Dynasty?
The imperial Chola dynasty was revived and established by Vijayalaya in the 9th century. He conquered Thanjavur from the Muttarayar dynasty and built a temple dedicated to goddess Nisumbhasudini there, laying the foundation of the medieval Chola Empire. Aditya I was his successor who further consolidated the kingdom, while Karikala belongs to the Sangam-era Cholas.
