- चार भौतिक तत्वों (पृथ्वी, जल, तेज, वायु) के विशिष्ट संयोग से शरीर में चेतना उत्पन्न होती है—"चैतन्यविशिष्टः कायः पुरुषः"। शरीर के नष्ट होते ही चेतना (आत्मा) भी समाप्त हो जाती है।
