Dr. Rajendra Prasad was unanimously elected as the permanent Chairman (President) of the Constituent Assembly on 11 December 1946. Prior to his election, Dr. Sachchidananda Sinha had served as the temporary interim chairman during the first meeting on 9 December 1946. Dr. Prasad guided the assembly through the entire drafting and adoption of the Constitution.

डॉ॰ राजेन्द्र प्रसाद को संविधान सभा का सभापति चुना गया
डॉ. राजेन्द्र प्रसाद को 11 दिसंबर 1946 को संविधान सभा का स्थाई अध्यक्ष (सभापति) सर्वसम्मति से चुना गया था। इससे पूर्व 9 दिसंबर 1946 को संविधान सभा की प्रथम बैठक में डॉ. सच्चिदानंद सिन्हा को अस्थाई अध्यक्ष बनाया गया था। डॉ. प्रसाद ने संविधान निर्माण और 26 नवंबर 1949 को इसे अंगीकृत किए जाने तक सभा का सफल नेतृत्व किया।
