The First Buddhist Council was convened in 483 BC at the Saptaparni (Sattapanni) Cave in Rajagriha (modern Rajgir) shortly after the Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha. It was held under the patronage of King Ajatashatru of the Haryanka dynasty and presided over by Mahakashyapa, during which the Sutta Pitaka and Vinaya Pitaka were compiled.

प्रथम बौद्ध संगीति का आयोजन 483 ईसा पूर्व में महात्मा बुद्ध के महापरिनिर्वाण के तुरंत बाद राजगृह (वर्तमान राजगीर) की सप्तपर्णी गुफा में हुआ था। इसकी अध्यक्षता महाकस्सप ने की थी और यह मगध नरेश अजातशत्रु (हर्यक वंश) के संरक्षण में संपन्न हुई थी, जहाँ सुत्त पिटक और विनय पिटक का संकलन हुआ।
