The Indian National Congress passed the historic 'Purna Swaraj' (Complete Independence) Resolution at its Lahore Session in December 1929 under the presidency of Jawaharlal Nehru. The session authorized the launching of the Civil Disobedience Movement and declared 26 January 1930 as the first Independence Day, celebrated with the unfurling of the tricolour on the banks of river Ravi.
