Who invited Gandhiji to come to Champaran?

Raj Kumar Shukla, a local indigo cultivator, invited Mahatma Gandhi to visit Champaran during the Lucknow Session of the Indian National Congress in 1916. He wanted Gandhiji to personally witness and address the exploitation of farmers under the oppressive Tinkathia system.
