Swami Vidyanand (born Bibhusan Prasad) emerged as the foremost peasant leader in Bihar during the Non-Cooperation Movement (1919–1922). He organized mass cultivator resistance against the oppressive exactions and illegal cesses (abwabs) of the Darbhanga Raj across Madhubani, Darbhanga, and north Bihar.
