Under the visionary heavy industrialization drive of the Second & Third Five-Year Plans (under SAIL), India established four mega integrated steel plants with foreign bilateral cooperation:

  1. 1. Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP - Chhattisgarh / erstwhile MP - 1955/1959):
    • Established in Durg district with technical and financial assistance from the USSR (Soviet Union); raw materials from Dalli-Rajhara iron mines and Tandula dam. Famous for rail tracks and heavy steel plates.
