Brief Description of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal:

Located along the picturesque Shamla Hills overlooking the Upper Lake in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (National Museum of Mankind) is an autonomous anthropological institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India:

• 1. Vision and Global Stature:
  • Spread over 200 acres, it is Asia's largest open-air anthropological museum depicting the evolutionary story of humankind with special focus on Indian indigenous tribal and folk communities.
• 2. Key Open-Air and Indoor Exhibitions:
  • Open-Air Exhibitions: Tribal Habitat (जनजातीय आवास), Coastal Village, Desert Village, Himalayan Village, and Rock Art Heritage (containing 36 authentic prehistoric painted rock shelters within the campus).
  • Indoor Museum (Veethi Sankul): Displays ethnographic artifacts, sacred groves, masks, metallurgy, and musical instruments.
