D.Tamil Nadu
Explanation & Solution

Correct Option: (B) Gujarat

The northern arid regions in India comprised largely the desert of Rajasthan, the Rann of Kutch and the semi-arid regions of Punjab and Gujarat. The Southern arid regions are in the rain shadow of the Western Ghats covering states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In India, majority of the cotton production comes from nine major cotton growing states, which are grouped into three diverse agro-ecological zones, as under: Northern Zone: Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan; Central Zone: Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh; Southern Zone: Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The economy of Gujarat is largely dependent upon agriculture. More than 50 percent of the total available production is cash crop. The main food crops are bajra, jowar, rice and wheat. Major commercial crops or cash crops are groundnut, tobacco and cotton, linseed, sugarcane, etc. Gujarat is the state where cultivation of cash crops is predominant over food crops.
